Plastic corrugated pipes are applied in post-tensioned prestressed concrete structures as the hole-forming pipes for prestressed tendons. The plastic corrugated pipes usually have the following functions: improving anti-corrosion ability and enhancing the maintenance of prestressed tendons. Metal corrugated pipes do not have long-term anti-corrosion ability, while corrugated pipes produced from high-density polyethylene or polypropylene can provide long-term anti-corrosion protection for prestressed tendons. The friction coefficient of plastic corrugated pipes is smaller than that of metal corrugated pipes.
A small coefficient of friction can mean less prestress loss or higher prestress, which is particularly beneficial for longer prestressed bundles and annular structures.
